Cambridge Inter Schools Golf Tournament

On Saturday 19th May, six young golfers from St Faith’s competed in the Cambridge Inter Schools Golf Tournament held at Cambridge Lakes.

They all battled hard in head to head singles matchplay through the heat and hard, bouncy conditions. Just as Harry and Meghan were tying the knot in London, Georgia bravely put the first points on the board for St Faith’s, going out at the top of the order. After that the team gradually edged closer towards what looked like a potential three-way sudden death play off between Netherhall, St John’s and St Faith’s, with wins for Callum, Jack and George. Sadly, it was not to be and we ended up tied in second place with St John’s.

Mr Helliwell (and Molly as mascot) attended and both he and Mr Rusted agreed that it was fabulous to see six different schools, with pupils ranging from 9-13 years and both boys and girls, competing together in a fun, competitive tournament. There was certainly plenty of drama and the children learned lots about their golf game and how to compete whilst remaining polite and friendly towards their opponents.

Well done to our Golf Captain Jack who led the golfers this year and supported the younger golfers at Royal Worlington earlier this term. Also, good luck to Harry in his ongoing quest to bring some silverware to St Faith’s as he continues to compete all year in the various IAPS and ISGA tournaments.

Many thanks to James Burton and Cambridge Lakes for hosting Saturday’s tournament and to all the parents who came to support the team.
