Deputy Head Academic Publishes Education Book

We are delighted to share the news that our Deputy Head Academic, Margaret White, has released a book which provides an answer to one of the key questions of our time: namely, what constitutes a good education.

Based on her Prep school experience, A Good Education considers the essential elements a good education should include. Forging a new framework in the form of a ‘four-dimensional’ model, and outlaying its origins, implications and practice, the book explores how a good contemporary education can be defined and implemented. Such an education is enriching for every child, encouraging each individual to flourish as a unique and valued member of their learning community.

In his foreword, Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Emeritus Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, explains how in A Good Education ‘the child is placed centre stage’, the book seeking ‘solutions that are required for holistic development of  a well-rounded individual’.

Sir Anthony Seldon, former head of Brighton College and of Wellington College and now Vice-Chancellor of Buckingham University comments, ‘Margaret White has spent a lifetime in and reflecting upon schools. She has written a wise and fresh book that all those connected with education, as parents, teachers, governors and administrators, and above all politicians, can read with profit and delight.’

The book, published by Routledge, has also received further critical acclaim:

‘Anyone who cares about the education of our children should read it’ David Hansen, Chief Executive, IAPS

‘A breath of fresh air… a timely, wise study’ Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury

‘Beautifully written, a memorable representation of ensuring children thrive at school’ Brett Wigdortz, CEO Teach First.

‘A compelling account of why ethos-based education, which puts the individual pupil at its core, really does matter.’ Keith Budge, Chair, HMC and Headmaster Bedales Schools

A Good Education is available in print and as an eBook, ISBN 9781138576322:
