Goblins visit Scottow Enterprise Park for the first race of the season

Last month our Goblins team visited the old RAF Coltishall site, now called Scottow Enterprise Park, for the county’s first ever Formula One-style engineering event. 17 Norfolk primary schools attended and raced in 25 cars, with St Faith’s being the only school from Cambridge present. The single seat electric cars were built by each school by promising engineers and racing drivers. We took two cars to this first IET Formula Goblin race of the season. The event consisted of slalom, drag and a circuit races. In addition, our pupils were assessed on how they made their car, how well they could explain the engineering behind the design, both verbally and through a written portfolio.

It was a brilliant day and St Faith’s pupils returned to the school with the 2nd place trophy from the drag race. The cars are now back in the engineering workshop ready to be fine-tuned for the next race day.

The venue hopes to put on a bigger and even better event next year. We would like to say a huge thank you to all members of staff for organising this event.

Here is some TV coverage of the event, and a news article.
