Jubilee Pond Update

Our patience has been rewarded with some spectacular wildlife moving into the Jubilee Pond this Spring.

Over the past two years, we have let the pond fill with rain water, adding only several native-species pond plants. This spring we were thrilled to spot smooth newts which have bred and we now have numerous young newts in our pond too. Our pupils have also spotted whirligig beetles, pond skaters, backswimmers, mayflies and this week heralded the arrival of our first dragonfly – a Broad-bodied Chaser which has a beautiful blue abdomen. The log pile is also home to a family of mice!

These are all wonderful developments ahead of our Green Flag Assessment on Tuesday. Well done to everyone involved with the Jubilee Pond and all of our Eco activities.
