Mr Helliwell’s Farewell Parade
At the end of the summer term St Faith’s bade farewell to Headmaster, Nigel Helliwell, after 10 years of dedicated service to the school. Given the Covid social-distancing and Year group ‘bubble’ restrictions at the time, the whole school participated in a surprise drive-by parade for Mr Helliwell and his wife Jane, which was kept a complete secret from them until the very end of Speech Day.
As the last of our Year 8 leavers exited the marquee, Mr and Mrs Helliwell were guided through a Year 8 Guard of Honour to a pair of golf buggies which then drove them around the school grounds where they were greeted by various year groups of pupils who cheered their farewell and entertained them with performances, songs and salutes along the way. They even had the chance to participate in a drag race with the Green Goblin go-karts! The Helliwells were clearly delighted with this surprise ending to Speech Day, which we were able to capture on video and dash-cam. What a wonderfully uplifting way to end the school year and Mr and Mrs Helliwell’s time at St Faith’s!
