Bruce left Bristol University, where he studied Italian and Drama, and went on to get a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Cardiff.
“From there I joined BBC Radio Bristol in 1998 and worked as a sports journalist commentating on Bristol City and Bristol Rovers every weekend as well as Gloucestershire and Somerset County Cricket clubs in the summer.
I joined BBC Radio 5 live in 2001 and became a full-time member of their football commentary team in 2004. My day-to-day job is reporting and commentating on Premier League football as well as Champions League and Europa League. I have covered 3 football World Cups in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. I have also recently started doing some games for BBC television’s Match of the Day.
I also do a lot of golf for BBC 5 live, commentating at every Masters, Open Championship and Ryder Cup since 2004.
I have worked on Test Match Special doing cricket commentary on a couple of England’s tours to India and I have also recently done some tennis commentary at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the French Open.
I will be travelling to Rio this summer to commentate on the cycling at the Olympics having previously worked at the Olympics in Athens in 2004 and London in 2012.”
