St Faith’s Mini Moo Joins The Cambridge Herd
In Late 2019, St Faith’s was given the wonderful opportunity to design and paint one of the 45 ‘mini moo’ cow sculptures as part of a public art trail named Cows about Cambridge. Pupils across all Year groups brainstormed ideas and drew up designs which contained inspirations from all parts of Cambridge, including St Faith’s itself.
After much discussion, the children decided the main theme of the mini moo cow named, Faith, would be about a poem by Xu Zhi Mo titled ‘On Leaving Cambridge’. Written by a Cambridge University scholar in 1928, it describes Cambridge’s nature spots in a beautiful, rhythmic manner. Following this chosen theme, over a dozen pupils painted Faith using aboriginal techniques, and it was all ‘tied’ together by the bold – red, white and black St Faith’s tie. The film below shows glimpses of the painting process.
After a one year delay due to Covid-19, the trail will finally be open to the public from the 28th June – 4th September where 90 uniquely decorated cow sculptures, large and small, will be appear in Cambridge’s streets, parks and open spaces. Keep an eye out for Faith who will be enjoying all kinds of sweet treats at Fitzbillies on 51-52 Trumpington Street.
