3-7 Years
What’s in a badge?
Throughout their time at St Faith’s, pupils take on a wide range of opportunities to support their houses, departments and the whole school community. In Pre Prep, this includes involvement in the School Council and Eco Committee, while pupils in Years 3-8 can join the Playground Committee, Eco Committee, School Council and a variety of other initiatives and events. This culminates in pupils’ applications to be House Captains, or Role Specific Prefects (RSPs) at the beginning of Year 8.
While all Year 8 pupils are prefects, who support their school community at events, on the playground, and as buddies to younger pupils, Role Specific Prefects and House Captains have particular responsibility for, and provide targeted support to, specific areas of school life.
As Role Specific Prefects for the Creative Arts, Sports, STEM, Languages, English and Humanities, and SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural), pupils are tasked with spearheading new campaigns and leading existing initiatives. This often includes promoting a department through written articles, and supporting a busy calendar of internal and external events. Termly highlights for our RSPs range from school productions, concerts and fixtures, to leading school-wide competitions and overseeing programmes for events, such as Book Week and British Science Week.
Meanwhile, House Captains act as integral pillars of support for our four Heads of Houses – Mr Johnson, Miss Kennerley, Mrs North, and Mrs Hames – as well as the Headmaster, throughout the academic year. They are role models and leaders for their houses, as well as the wider school community, at a variety of exciting events in the school calendar, ranging from Open Mornings to Last House Standing, our annual inter-house singing competition.
All House Captains and Role Specific Prefects act as ambassadors, in their daily school life, for the positive learning habits and ‘being our best selves’, as well as positive role models in their appearance and behaviour. Outside of a busy calendar of events, House Captains and Role Specific Prefects leave a lasting impact on their community each day, through individual interactions with and mentoring for our youngest pupils, to fostering feelings of mutual responsibility and togetherness throughout the school community.
