Foundation

Children aged 4 to 5 years old are members of the three Foundation classes.

We want every child to have the very best start, so we have created a fun-filled, caring and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to explore, investigate and communicate about their discoveries and the world around them.

The Foundation curriculum, based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, has seven areas of learning and development, with an emphasis on exploration, investigation, discovery and problem solving. The characteristics of effective learning align with our whole school learning habits and underpin everything we do.

Children learn best through first-hand experiences, when they are actively involved and happy to approach opportunities with curiosity, energy and enthusiasm. Our experienced staff plan together to provide activities tailored to meet the needs of individuals. PE and Games lessons take place in the Sports Hall, Ashburton Hall or outdoors. Music and Spanish are introduced and taught by specialist teachers; both subjects continue throughout a pupil’s journey at St Faith’s.
